Walmart is planning to install a new outdoor antenna that will allow for outdoor viewing on its store floor, reports ESPN.
The retailer is already using outdoor antenna panels in stores, and now it is hoping to spread the technology to its retail outlets.
The new outdoor antennas will be installed in the stores by Walmart’s partner, the Retail Retail Technology Association (RTA), which is in the process of creating a standard for outdoor antenna installation.
The RTA’s proposed standard includes a set of rules and guidelines that the retailer is hoping will make the outdoor antenna process easier and more accessible for retailers.
The standard will provide the retailer with guidelines on what to install, how to set it up and what is and isn’t allowed on the shelves.
In addition to the RTA, the retailer has signed on with the American Society of Radio Engineers (ASRA) to help with the standards.
The standards have been adopted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), according to the UPI.
The rules are expected to be published in early 2019.
